Our Bowie, Our Future
Environmental Health
As the city continues to grow, we need to adapt our land usage to our local environment. This means we should mitigate erosion and pollution into the Patuxent River by building bioretention walls that absorb rain water and promote pollination.
Constituent Services
The main principle in democracy is to directly serve the people. Our Council should be looking at innovative ways to connect with residents who are in need and/or have concerns. This includes tracking constituent requests and providing progress reports online.
Smart Growth
Bowie has a strong culture that is family oriented and includes beautiful greenspace, youth sports, and recreations.
We should continue to preserve these assets while innovating and moving our city forward. This includes upgrading our facilities, focusing on redevelopment, protecting greenspace, and upgrading existing infrastructure.
Public Safety
For decades, The City of Bowie and its residents have experienced a safe community. This is something that attracts people to the city. Keeping residents safe should be our top priority for our city government.
Residents must not only be safe but feel safe. I will continue to ensure our police department is fully staffed with the best and brightest officers and they have the training and resources necessary to do their job.
Working with our regional partners in assessing crime trends and potential public safety threats is essential to maintaining a strong community. In conjunction, we also need to provide young people safe opportunities to express their interests and contribute to our City.
City Investments
For both today and generations to come, our city will need to innovate and invest in our community infrastructure. This means continuing to work with our government partners to upgrade our water system.
It’s a matter of great importance for us to create a city in which anyone can call Bowie home for as long as they wish. To support our seniors, it’s time we invest in public transit to better support their needs and to ease traffic congestion.
Finally, we should invest in sports and recreation, making sure the City of Bowie remains a regional leader and destination for youth sports. This includes new basketball courts, an ice rink facility, and pickleball and squash courts.
Accomplishments
As your Councilmember, I worked with my colleagues to create a balanced budget that would continue our exceptional standard of service and amenities with no tax increases.
We also instituted the City of Bowie Women Trailblazer Award to showcase the amazing impact women have made on our city.
Finally, I worked alongside residents and our Council to halt the construction of a proposed storage facility that was originally planned within a residential community and instead provide a suitable alternative for its development.
